For over 17 years, Clean and Green RiverFest has been a community event intended to increase wildlife habitat along the Sturgeon River.

Participants can help by collecting litter before it enters the river and planting native trees and shrubs. It's an opportunity for individuals, groups and families to learn how they can impact the environment in a positive way.

The Orange Shirt Day event with Root for Trees takes place on Sunday, September 27 from Noon–4:00 PM at Kinsmen Park in Edmonton. It features a commemorative native plant giveaway of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers to honour residential school victims, families, and survivors. Attendees are encouraged to wear orange.

We will introduce the new Algal Bloom Tracker, developed by 12 organizations including the University of Alberta, the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute, and the Alberta Lake Management Society. The tracker opens the door to modelling historic and future algae blooms.

Fall migration is the perfect time to see hawks and eagles making their way south along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Meet at the southeast corner of the west side Safeway parking lot at 8 a.m.. We will proceed to the Vicki Ridge hawk watch site and Beaver Mines lake from there.

Enjoy a morning exploring the Battery Creek Trail and the North Saskatchewan River Valley. This approximately 4.5 km walk follows a primarily flat route, making it suitable for a range of walking abilities.

At the end of the trail, participants will have the optional opportunity to take the stairs to the top of the bank and see where this section of trail will eventually connect with Edmonton as the River Valley Alliance trail system continues to develop.
